When you have eliminated the impossible...

...whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth."

--Sherlock Holmes

We're cat-sitting for a friend, which of course brings up the important question: Where do we put the litterbox?

Is it an outside cat? No, and it's in a strange house, so it can't go in the yard.
How about the garage? No, the garage door is not cat-friendly (at least from the inside--the weather stripping on the outside is good for hours of noisy feline fun at night).
One of the bathroom floors? Not with Rachel firmly in the "toilets are fun to play with" stage, and our family's, shall we say, erratic flushing habits, which means that all bathroom doors are closed, unless actively being used. The door, that is, not the bathroom.
Anywhere on the floor? Nope... see above.
So, we need a raised horizontal surface...

Kitchen? Not in this lifetime.
Half-bathroom counter? Not quite enough room, and there's barely enough room to swing a... I mean, the bathrooms are rather small. Again, since it's not our cat, and not an outside cat, and our door-closing skills match the flushing skills, so we need a room where we can enclose the cat without risking a nasty note from the Humane Society thrown through our window attached to a chew toy.

That leaves bedrooms. Clearly, kids' bedrooms are out, for the safety of the cat, the children, and the room. So, somewhere in the master bedroom area, then. Smell considerations rule out the bedroom proper, as well as the closet, and the actual bath area is too small.

Which is how I ended up having a cat litterbox about 2 feet away from my toothbrush.

Awesome! You're good people to tend someone else's cat.

That's hilarious. We have the same bathroom rule at our house, and we've also had to go over the "what is safe to go down the toilet" talk, more times than I thought I would ever have to in my life.
